Today in the field of human services we are being asked to serve people with a growing variety of conditions. Often within a single service setting, we provide care to people with:
Frustration intensifies as we attempt to use the same paradigm, or model of care, to serve all of these conditions. With growing recognition that these conditions do not all fit into the same model of care, we are pressed to expand our knowledge- base and change our perceptions.
- Mental Illness
- Brain Injury
- Intellectual Disabilities
- Alzheimer’s Disease
As we come to see the bigger picture for each of the conditions, we begin to understand our roles more clearly. Changing our perceptions helps decrease frustration and gives us a new direction. It allows for modification in our goals and expectations, and assists us in creating a truly therapeutic milieu.
This workshop offers an opportunity for direct care staff, nurses, and social workers to examine paradigms of care. An interactive format uses imagery, activity, lecture, and discussion to develop new perceptions, enabling us to more effectively serve others.
