The MANDT System is a comprehensive approach to prevention, de-escalation and intervention when individual behavior poses a threat to the individual or to others. The focus is on creating healthy relationships and developing an emotionally, psychologically, and physically safe culture.

Day One focuses on relationships and is a prerequisite for Day 2, which includes technical skills.

Relational skills include:

  • building healthy relationships
  • building healthy communication skills
  • developing healthy conflict management skills

MANDT's goal is for caregivers to be so good at non-physical interactions that they do not need to use physical interactions. The desire is to reduce the frequency, duration, and intensity of any restraint used, if not eliminate the use of the restraint altogether.

The technical components of day 2 include what may happen if interactions become incidents or crises.

Technical skills include:

  • Assisting and supporting
  • Releasing
