Mental Health First Aid USA is an 8-hour training to teach participants how to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis.  The evidence behind the program demonstrates that it helps trainees identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders.

Mental Health First Aid is included on SAMHSA’s National Registry of Evidence-Based Programs and Practices (NREPP).

This course is open to the general public.  Anyone working – or living – in the community will benefit from this activity-based training.  Mental Health First Aid teaches participants how to handle mental health crises, which can happen anywhere, at any time.  There are no prerequisites, and no previous experience is necessary.  Join us for this enlightening course that is becoming more and more relevant in our changing world.

Just as CPR helps you assist an individual having a heart attack, Mental Health First Aid helps you assist someone experiencing a mental health or substance use-related crisis. In the Mental Health First Aid course, you learn risk factors and warning signs for mental health and addiction concerns, strategies for how to help someone in both crisis and non-crisis situations, and where to turn for help. This interactive training course utilizes a variety of different activities and modes of learning, including:

  • Role playing
  • Scenarios
  • Discussion
  • Video
  • Simulation

  • Course materials, refreshments and lunch (for full, in-person classes held in the Twin Cities) are included in the course fee
  • Pre-registration is required, register early! Class size is limited.

Cancellation Policy

  • Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours before the course begins. The full course fee will be charged if cancellation is made less than 24 hours in advance. Except for Blended Learning CPR and First Aid courses, registrations are transferable to other students.
