Mental Health First Aid for Older Adults near Minneapolis will equip participants with tools to provide high-quality care to older adults who may be experiencing a mental health crisis or who may be experiencing new or worsening mental health symptoms.
Participants will learn:
- The prevalence of mental health problems in older adults and the importance of early intervention
- Unique risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems in adults over the age of 65
- Interventions to provide initial help
- How to connect older adults to professional, peer, social and self-help care
Mental Health First Aid USA is an 8-hour training to teach participants how to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. The evidence behind the program demonstrates that it helps trainees identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders.
Mental Health First Aid is included on SAMHSA’s National Registry of Evidence-Based Programs and Practices (NREPP).
