This training is offered virtually. Registered participants will receive a Zoom link to access the course approximately one week in advance of course date.


In this interactive, skills-based course, you will practice techniques to reduce stress, improve self-esteem, and increase structure to assist in the management of Generalized Anxiety Disorder.

The symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, including intrusive thoughts, flashbacks and avoidance behaviors, will be discussed, enabling you to provide more compassionate care.

You will practice techniques to reduce the feelings of terror and alleviate the disabling physical symptoms associated with Panic Disorder


Multiple learning strategies will also be employed throughout the training to increase knowledge and understanding of Mood Disorders, including Bipolar Disorder, Major Depression and Dysthymia. Participants will learn:

  • Prevalence of different types of Mood Disorders
  • Common symptoms of Bipolar Disorder, Major Depression and Dysthymia
  • Commonly co-occurring diagnoses
  • Treatment options and crisis resources

Understanding the symptoms, diagnosis, course of illness, and treatment of Anxiety and Mood Disorders will benefit

  • nurses,
  • social workers,
  • chemical dependency counselors,
  • program directors,
  • job coaches, and
  • direct care staff.

  • Pre-registration is required, register early! Class size is limited
  • Video/audio taping of courses is prohibited

Cancellation Policy

  • Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours before the course.  The course fee will be charged if cancellation is made in less than 24 hours.  Registration is transferable to another person.

About the instructor

Karen Finck, APRN, CNS, is an expert in psychiatric nursing. An engaging speaker, Ms. Finck lectures throughout Minnesota on mental health topics. She adeptly uses humor and presents real-life anecdotes from her experiences in the field. She provides not only an understandable theoretical framework, but offers practical approaches as well.
